Today, a project agreement on the use of renewable energy to improve the quality of life in Yemen was signed between the Saudi programme for the development and reconstruction of Yemen and the Arab Gulf programme for the development of Ajvand and a development-related institution; with a view to cooperating in the implementation of the project in five Yemeni governorates: Hadramawt, Taiz, Lahij, Abyan and West Coast, at a cost of $2.100,000, in the areas of energy, technical environment, food security, health and education, women ' s empowerment, water and environmental sanitation, protection and shelter.

The following three parties were represented: His Royal Highness Prince Abdelaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan; His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Bin Said Al Jaber, Executive Director of the Al-Jabar Saudi Development and Reconstruction Programme; and His Excellency Ali Hassan Bashmakh, Executive Director of the Association for Development.

His Royal Highness Prince Abdelaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz expressed his pleasure at meeting with representatives of the Saudi programme for the development and reconstruction of Yemen and the related institution for development, and at initiating promising development cooperation with Ajvand in the interest of the fraternal Yemeni people.

They called it a project to use renewable energy systems to improve the quality of life in Yemen, which lays the foundation for the quality of infrastructure now required, especially to resolve crises and deal with emergencies to meet the necessary needs, while at the same time being an important component of peace and stability, energy is one of the most important inputs to sustainable development.

They added that this project has a special place for two reasons: genuinely Arab Yemen has a special place in our hearts. Second, this project is one of the winners of the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development – a pilot project – and it has won the leadership of competition with more than 70 projects that have been nominated from around the world, so its development and dissemination will yield great results if God will.

They stated that with other development organizations, Ajvand will always contribute to the stabilization environment that the Yemeni people aspire to, and in this context, to the reconstruction development framework. His Highness hopes that cooperation with the Saudi programme for the development and reconstruction of Yemen will bear fruit in other vital projects, including the opening in the future of the Open Arab League in Yemen, as in the nine Arab States in which the League is deployed.

Ambassador Mohamed Bin Said Al Jaber emphasized that this agreement is part of the ongoing work we are pursuing in the Saudi programme for the development and reconstruction of Yemen under the guidance of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince. We will therefore continue to integrate our efforts and those of the actors in order to achieve comprehensive development in the Republic of Yemen.

We are meeting today to sign a tripartite contribution agreement for the project on renewable energy to improve the quality of life in five Yemeni governorates. The project will use clean energy to provide drinking water, agricultural irrigation, lighting of public utilities and lighting of homes in an effort to improve the services of vital sectors, improve the lives of Yemeni citizens and, with the help of God, contribute to the development of infrastructure and improve basic services within Yemen.

The number of beneficiaries in the area of clean drinking water pumping is 60,000, in the area of agricultural irrigation 210 farmers with sustainable irrigation, and in the area of lighting 931 families.

The project benefits from a number of vital facilities, health and educational services and mosques in a number of remote areas. The Convention is part of the framework for promoting and coordinating cooperation among partners in the implementation of sustainable development projects in order to promote and develop strategic and developmental integration in the service of Yemen.

A related development institution has already won the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development in 2019 in the area of clean water and hygiene, which is the sixth goal of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The new project is seen as an extension of the project ' s successful scope of work to include the largest number of beneficiaries and in multiple, more comprehensive areas.

Saudi Arabia ' s programme for the development and reconstruction of Yemen has submitted 207 projects and development initiatives that it has implemented in various Yemeni governorates to serve Yemeni brothers in seven key sectors: education, health, water, energy, transport, agriculture and fisheries, capacity-building of government institutions and development programmes.
