President of the Comoros receives the President of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions.

His Excellency Mr. Ghazali Othmani, President of the Federal Islamic Republic of the Comoros, received in his office at Beit Salam; Her Excellency Ms. Mariam Bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah, President of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions – based in Ad-Darhah – and the accompanying delegation.

This came within the framework of Al-Attiyah’s visit program as part of the Arab Network’s mission to provide necessary support to its member institutions, where the visit aims to secure support for the Comorian Committee to enable it to apply for accreditation before the Sub-Committee on Accreditation of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, after improving its legal and technical status to be classified as Grade A by the Global Alliance in Geneva.

Her Excellency, the President of the Arab Network, presented to His Excellency President Othmani a study on the establishment law of the Human Rights Committee in the Comoros, and the points that need amendment to align the Committee optimally with the Paris Principles of 1993 so that it can apply for accreditation by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, as well as sought guidance on allocating a suitable headquarters for the Comorian Committee.

Al-Attiyah affirmed the Arab Network’s continued support for the Human Rights Committee in the Comoros until it is classified by the Global Alliance, including providing necessary advice in the preparation and submission of the accreditation file. She called for amending the establishment law of the Committee and for the government to support the national institution in carrying out its role while maintaining its independence, so it can obtain the Grade A classification.
