The African Peace Bank wins the Excellence Award in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility in Islamic Banks
In recognition of its community achievements, Al Salam African Bank has won the “Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility in Islamic Banks for 2017” award. This was during its participation in the “Conference and Award for Corporate Social Responsibility in Islamic Banks for 2017”, organized by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility in the Kingdom of Bahrain under the slogan “Islamic Banks’ Commitments to Stakeholders”. The event was held under the patronage of the Bahraini Minister of Finance, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and attended by the Chairman of the Bahrain Association of Banks and the International Ambassador for Social Responsibility, Adnan Ahmed Yousif.
The award was received on behalf of the bank by the Chairman of the Bank’s Board of Directors, Dr. Omar Ismail Ajal, and its General Manager, Mr. Noor Abdi Mohammed. Al Salam African Bank was able to win this award by meeting all the criteria set by the organizing body, which included contributions to charitable initiatives, financial inclusion activities, and promoting social benefits through integration with the bank’s activities. In addition, the bank issued a special report on social responsibility and had various activities in different areas of social responsibility, as well as a clear social responsibility policy by the bank’s senior management.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Salam African Bank expressed the importance of winning the award, as it adds to its rich history of achievements in various fields of Islamic banking, including its distinguished role in social responsibility. He considered any success achieved by the bank as a strong motivation to continue and achieve more successes and improve performance.
He added: Since the bank’s opening in Djibouti’s capital by a group of Djiboutian and Somali businessmen at the end of December 2008, the bank has received great interest from the community as part of the Islamic economic system.
Al Salam African Bank has also demonstrated its commitment to implementing the principle of social responsibility by contributing to the housing project of the Right to Housing Foundation for President Ismail Omar Guelleh by providing the costs of building 100 housing units as a donation, making it the first institution to contribute to the project with this large amount. In addition, the bank has a project to provide Iftar meals during the holy month of Ramadan.
It is worth mentioning that the Regional Network for Social Responsibility, a member of the United Nations Global Compact program, is an independent international consulting and professional institution with branches and representative agreements in several countries worldwide. Its aim is to raise awareness about corporate social responsibility and enhance it in the public and private sectors. The conference included the launch of the international training program “Specialist in Corporate Social Responsibility in Islamic Banks”.
