Djibouti participates in the high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF)
In the context of the voluntary national review of the Republic of Djibouti for the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, known as the Sustainable Development Goals, a high-level delegation from Djibouti, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Government Spokesperson, Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, participated in the high-level political forum on sustainable development in New York.
During this high-level political forum, our country presented its report on the progress made and achievements related to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, within the framework of the voluntary national review of the Millennium Development Goals.
It is worth noting that the purpose of this step is to present the current situation in the country in order to expedite the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals through the exchange of experiences, identifying gaps and good practices, and establishing partnerships.
The conclusions of the report, which emerged from a year of national consultations, enabled the Government of Djibouti to reaffirm its steadfast commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind and to enhancing more inclusive participation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
During the interactive dialogue that followed the presentation by the Djiboutian diplomat, the delegations of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal praised the quality and content of the report, which shed further light on Djibouti’s efforts in engaging stakeholders, including migrants and refugees, and the measures aimed at preserving marine ecosystems and making significant progress in eliminating female genital mutilation.
On the other hand, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on the sidelines of his participation in the political forum, met with the Deputy Secretary-General and Deputy Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ms. Osha Rao Monari, and the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Assistant Director of the UNDP, and the Director of the Regional Office for Arab States, Ms. Khalida Bouzar, where they held a working meeting to discuss all ongoing projects and activities of the UNDP in Djibouti and prospects for future cooperation in areas of common interest.
It is worth mentioning that the high-level political forum of the United Nations on sustainable development is the main platform of the United Nations for sustainable development and plays a central role in monitoring and reviewing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals at the global level.
The high-level political forum on sustainable development was established in 2012 under the outcome document of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), “The Future We Want”.
The forum, which was established in 2012, meets annually under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council for eight days, including the ministerial segment for three days, and every four years at the level of heads of state and government under the auspices of the General Assembly for two days.
