Launch of a United Nations initiative to develop the recovery and sustainable development plan in Yemen

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) held a meeting in Jordan on Thursday to launch its initiative on a national vision for recovery and development in Yemen.

According to the United Nations News Centre, the Committee launched an initiative to support recovery in Yemen during an event that brought together representatives of regional and international organizations supporting the Arab State.

The meeting was attended by the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Executive Secretary of ESCWA, the Yemeni Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, A ' a ' a ' Abdullah Abd al-Razzaq Bazib, and representatives of national, regional and international funds and programmes and development actors in Yemen.

The Centre explained that the main objective of the project was to pave the way for a national dialogue to develop the recovery and sustainable development agenda on the basis of consensus.

The initiative also seeks to strengthen public institutions and prepare them for the recovery process, provide technical assistance and strengthen alliances.
