Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced winning in three categories at the Gulf Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards.
The authority bagged the Environmental Sustainability Programmes and the Government Sustainability Initiative awards, as well as walked away with the top honour in the Water Treatment and Management category.According to Dubai Media Office, RTA’s win of the Environmental Sustainability Programmes Award is in recognition of its initiatives and projects in support of a green economy, such as its efforts to reduce the carbon emissions of the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram projects.
The news agency added that the award also recognises RTA’s plan to convert 50% of Dubai Taxi Corporation’s vehicles to hybrid taxis, curb carbon emissions through the operation of solar-powered abras, and introduce power-saving technologies in street lighting and traffic signals, among other measures.
For the Government Sustainability Initiative category, RTA reportedly won owing to its efforts of aligning economic, communal, and environmental sustainability with its strategic goals, in addition to launching initiatives to boost its financial sustainability.
Meanwhile, RTA’s win in the category of Water Treatment and Management has been attributed to its success in reducing the amount of water used in washing buses at the RTA Bus Depot by as much as 85%.
The procedure RTA has adopted is said to reduce wastewater, cut emissions associated with the transport of wastewater, and overcome the problem of oily wastewater, Dubai Media Office noted.
